 Lunch 'n Learn overview

Most people have hopes, ideas or aspirations for the future.

Yet dreams can easily be postponed, diluted by other people’s expectations or abandoned after disappointment. Some remain inspiring possibilities, while others never move beyond intention.

Put Your Dream to the Test is an engaging Lunch ’n Learn inspired by John C. Maxwell’s principles for evaluating and pursuing a meaningful dream.

The session encourages participants to reflect honestly on what they want, whether the dream genuinely belongs to them and what commitment may be required to move it forward.

This is not simply a motivational conversation about dreaming bigger. It is an invitation to approach a dream with greater clarity, ownership, courage and personal responsibility.

Session Objective

The objective of this Lunch ’n Learn is to help participants reflect more intentionally on a personal or professional dream and consider what may be required to pursue it.

Participants will be encouraged to:

  • reconnect with aspirations they may have neglected;
  • recognise common reasons people stop dreaming;
  • distinguish their own dream from the expectations of others;
  • strengthen personal ownership and belief;
  • consider the level of commitment their dream requires;
  • recognise that meaningful dreams involve sacrifice and sustained effort;
  • identify both the price they are willing to pay and the boundaries they need to protect; and
  • choose one practical step towards moving the dream forward.

Session Outline

Why Dreams Are Often Left Behind

Participants explore common reasons people may stop identifying or pursuing meaningful aspirations.

Reconnecting with Possibility

The session creates space for participants to consider what they might pursue if fear, disappointment or other people’s expectations were no longer making the decision for them.

Is This Truly Your Dream?

Participants reflect on whether their current ambition is personally meaningful or largely shaped by what others believe they should do.

Taking Ownership

The session considers how ownership may involve:

  • believing in oneself;
  • making intentional choices;
  • accepting responsibility for progress;
  • recognising personal talent and passion;
  • avoiding unhelpful comparison; and
  • remaining connected to a meaningful vision.

From Interest to Commitment

Participants consider the difference between something that would be “nice to have” and a dream they are genuinely prepared to pursue.

What Will the Dream Cost?

Attention is given to the reality that the dream may be free, but the journey is not.

Paying the Right Price

The session also acknowledges that some costs may be too high.

Participants are encouraged to pursue ambition without unnecessarily sacrificing:

  • health;
  • important relationships;
  • personal values;
  • integrity; or
  • overall well-being.

Testing the Dream Wisely

Participants reflect on what they may need to investigate, clarify or discuss with someone who has relevant experience before making a significant commitment.

Taking the First Step

The session concludes by helping participants identify one realistic action that moves the dream from imagination towards intentional pursuit.

  • facilitated personal-growth insights;
  • relatable stories and examples;
  • guided self-reflection;

  • emerging and experienced leaders;
  • employees considering a new goal or direction;
  • entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners;

  • individuals who have postponed an important aspiration;

What Participants Will Take Away

Participants will leave with:

  • renewed awareness of a personal or professional aspiration;
  • insight into what may have held them back;
  • greater clarity about whether the dream truly belongs to them;
  • a more realistic understanding of commitment and sacrifice;
  • awareness of the boundaries they do not want to compromise;
  • encouragement to approach the dream with courage and responsibility; and
  • one practical step for moving forward.

A Dream Needs More Than Hope

Dreams can inspire us—but they also need ownership, preparation, courage and action.

The aim is not simply to dream more. It is to test the dream honestly and decide whether you are ready to pursue what it could become.

Own the dream. Count the cost. Take the next step.
