Lunch 'n Learn overview

Leadership is not reserved for executives, managers or people with formal authority.

Every person influences others through their decisions, behaviour, relationships and example. The question is not whether we influence, but whether that influence is intentional, constructive and supported by strong personal leadership.

Developing the Leader Within You 2.0 is an engaging Lunch ’n Learn inspired by John C. Maxwell’s foundational leadership principles.

The session introduces participants to three essential areas of leadership development:

  • influence;
  • priorities; and
  • character.

Through practical insights and guided reflection, participants are encouraged to consider how they currently lead themselves and others—and what they can begin doing differently to strengthen their impact.

Session Objective

The objective of this Lunch ’n Learn is to help participants recognise that leadership can be learned and intentionally developed, regardless of their current position or title.

Participants will be encouraged to:

  • recognise the influence they already have;
  • distinguish formal authority from genuine leadership;
  • consider how relationships and results strengthen influence;
  • reflect on the priorities currently shaping their time and attention;
  • move from reactive busyness towards greater intentionality;
  • recognise character as the foundation of sustainable leadership; and
  • identify one practical step for growing as a leader.

Session Outline

Leadership Is Influence

Participants explore why leadership is not defined by position alone and how everyday influence shapes people, relationships and workplace culture.

Growing beyond Positional Leadership

The session considers how leaders move beyond relying on authority by building trust, strengthening relationships, producing meaningful results and helping others grow.

Leading through Priorities

Participants reflect on the difference between being busy and being effective—and why leadership requires clarity about what deserves attention.

Choosing the Important over the Urgent

Attention is given to intentional decision-making, proactive leadership and the need to focus limited time and energy on work that creates meaningful value.

Character as the Leadership Foundation

Participants explore why credibility, values and self-leadership influence whether people continue to trust and follow a leader.

Developing the Leader Within

The session concludes by inviting participants to identify one area in which they can strengthen their influence, priorities or character.

The Lunch ’n Learn Experience

This concise and interactive session may include:

  • facilitated leadership insights;
  • relatable workplace examples;
  • audience participation;
  • guided self-reflection;
  • practical leadership questions; and
  • a focused personal-development commitment.

Who Should Attend?

This session is suitable for:

  • emerging and aspiring leaders;
  • recently promoted supervisors or managers;
  • team leaders;
  • experienced leaders seeking renewed reflection;
  • high-potential employees;
  • professionals who influence others without holding a formal title; and
  • organisations seeking to strengthen their leadership pipeline.

What Participants Will Take Away

Participants will leave with:

  • a clearer understanding of leadership as influence;
  • greater awareness of their current leadership impact;
  • insight into the role of relationships, results and people development;
  • a more intentional approach to priorities;
  • renewed appreciation for character and self-leadership;
  • encouragement to continue developing rather than waiting for a title; and
  • one practical leadership commitment to apply after the session.

Leadership Can Be Learned

Strong performers do not automatically become strong leaders. Leadership requires its own development, reflection and practice.

This session helps participants recognise that the leader within them can be strengthened—one choice, one priority and one act of influence at a time.

Grow your influence. Lead your priorities. Strengthen your character.
