 Lunch 'n Learn overview
Â
Communication is part of almost every professional role.
We communicate in meetings, presentations, client conversations, training sessions, interviews and everyday workplace interactions. Yet having valuable information does not automatically mean that people will listen, trust the message or take action.
The 16 Undeniable Laws of Communication is an engaging Lunch ’n Learn inspired by John C. Maxwell’s communication principles.
The session introduces participants to four foundational laws that can strengthen the way they present ideas and engage an audience:
- connection;
- credibility;
- conviction; and
- storytelling.
Participants are encouraged to move beyond simply delivering information and begin communicating in ways that are more audience-focused, authentic and memorable.
Session Objective
The objective of this Lunch ’n Learn is to help participants develop greater confidence and intentionality in the way they communicate with others.
Participants will be encouraged to:
- recognise that effective communication can be learned and developed;
- focus more intentionally on the needs of the audience;
- create stronger connection before delivering content;
- understand how personal credibility affects the message;
- communicate with greater authenticity and consistency;
- identify the convictions that give energy to their communication;
- use stories to make ideas more relatable and memorable; and
- select one practical communication skill to begin strengthening.
Session Outline
Communication Is More Than Delivering Information
Participants explore why expertise and good content alone may not be enough to hold attention or inspire engagement.
Effective communication requires the communicator to consider not only what they want to say, but also how the message will be experienced by others.
The Law of Connecting
The session introduces the principle that meaningful communication begins with the audience.
Participants consider how to:
- shift attention away from themselves;
- understand the world of the people they are addressing;
- recognise what matters to the audience;
- reduce unnecessary distance or formality; and
- communicate in a more personal and relatable way.
Begin with the Audience
Participants reflect on the value of researching and understanding:
- the audience’s context;
- their priorities;
- current concerns;
- shared values;
- existing knowledge; and
- the result they need from the communication.
This enables the communicator to build the message around people rather than expecting people to adapt to the message.
The Law of Credibility
Participants explore why the communicator is part of the message.
Trust is influenced by whether people experience the speaker as:
- authentic;
- transparent;
- consistent;
- knowledgeable;
- caring; and
- aligned with what they communicate.
Living the Message
The session considers the importance of alignment between words and behaviour.
Participants reflect on how credibility may be strengthened through:
- admitting mistakes appropriately;
- sharing real experiences;
- following through on commitments;
- demonstrating consistency; and
- becoming an example of the principles they promote.
Beyond Positional Communication
Participants are introduced to the idea that people listen for different reasons.
They may listen because they are required to, because they trust the relationship or because they recognise the communicator’s ability and value.
The aim is to grow beyond authority-based communication towards communication that people willingly engage with.
The Law of Conviction
The session explores why people are more likely to feel a message when the communicator genuinely believes it.
Participants consider the topics, values and causes that create a strong personal response.
Communicating with Genuine Energy
Conviction is not about artificial enthusiasm or dramatic performance.
It is about communicating from a place of sincere belief, relevant experience and genuine commitment to the message.
The Law of Storytelling
Participants explore why stories help people understand ideas through human experience.
Finding Stories Worth Sharing
Participants consider possible sources of stories.
Stories involving imperfection and learning may often create greater connection than stories designed only to impress.
Giving Every Story a Purpose
The session encourages participants to avoid using stories merely for entertainment.
An effective story should support the central message and may offer:
- insight;
- heart;
- hope;
- humour;
- a practical lesson; or
- a meaningful challenge.
Identifying the Next Communication Step
The session concludes by helping participants select one area to strengthen, such as:
- understanding the audience;
- making the message more personal;
- improving credibility;
- speaking with greater conviction;
- using a relevant story; or
- practising communication more consistently.
The Lunch ’n Learn Experience
This concise and interactive session may include:
- facilitated communication insights;
- relatable speaking and workplace examples;
- audience participation;
- guided personal reflection;
- a brief communication self-assessment;
- practical audience and message questions; and
- a focused development commitment.
Who Should Attend?
This session is suitable for:
- leaders and managers;
- emerging leaders;
- client-facing professionals;
- trainers and facilitators;
- professionals who present reports or recommendations;
- team leaders and project managers;
- employees required to speak in meetings;
- business owners and entrepreneurs; and
- anyone wanting to communicate with greater confidence and impact.
What Participants Will Take Away
Participants will leave with:
- a clearer understanding of communication as a learnable skill;
- greater awareness of the importance of audience connection;
- insight into how credibility strengthens or weakens a message;
- encouragement to communicate more authentically;
- greater awareness of the role of conviction;
- practical ideas for using stories effectively;
- a clearer sense of their own communication strengths; and
- one practical action for continued development.
Your Message Deserves More Than Delivery
Communication becomes more effective when people do more than hear the words.
They understand the message, trust the communicator and remember what mattered.
Connect with people. Live the message. Speak with conviction. Tell the story well.
