Lunch 'n Learn overview
The session draws on two principles from John C. Maxwell’s The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth: learning through difficult experiences and maintaining the healthy stretch between present capability and future potential.
Learning from life and stretching beyond the comfort zone
Growth does not happen simply because time passes. It happens when we reflect on our experiences, remain open to learning and develop the courage to move beyond what feels familiar.
Turning Pain into Growth is an engaging Lunch ’n Learn based on two principles from John C. Maxwell’s The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth: The Law of Pain and The Law of the Rubber Band.
The session explores how difficult experiences can become valuable catalysts for learning—and why continued growth requires a healthy tension between where we are now and what we may still become.
Rather than avoiding discomfort or settling into familiar patterns, participants are invited to consider how challenges, change and intentional stretching can support greater resilience, capability and personal effectiveness.
Session Objective
The objective of this Lunch ’n Learn is to encourage participants to approach personal and professional growth with greater reflection, courage and intentionality.
Participants will be encouraged to:
- recognise the growth potential within difficult experiences;
- consider how their response to adversity influences future progress;
- move from regret or avoidance towards learning and constructive action;
- identify where comfort may be limiting development;
- recognise the gap between current reality and future potential; and
- choose one practical area in which to stretch and grow.
