OPTIONAL: The Performance & Resilience Lab for APC Candidates - Join us on 12 November 2026 from 11:00 to 13:00

The final weeks before APC can bring a very particular kind of pressure.

There is still work to do. Simulations may not always go according to plan. Confidence can fluctuate. Candidates compare themselves with others. Fatigue begins to accumulate. And as assessment day approaches, the temptation is often to respond by simply doing more.

But high performance is not only about how much you know.

It is also about being able to think clearly, regulate yourself, adapt when something does not go according to plan, make sound decisions and recover quickly enough to continue.

APC READY is a 21-day positive psychology and coaching-based pathway developed specifically to support APC candidates during the final stretch of their preparation.

It does not replace technical APC preparation.

It helps candidates strengthen the psychological resources they need to access and demonstrate what they have already worked so hard to develop.

Why APC READY matters

APC requires much more than the recall of technical information.

Candidates are expected to work with complex, contextualised information, integrate different areas of knowledge, exercise professional judgement, identify and solve problems and communicate useful recommendations.

SAICA's guidance explicitly describes professional competence as contextualised application rather than knowledge alone, and recognises reflective capacity and judgement as part of advanced performance.

Yet these are exactly the capabilities that can become harder to access when someone is:

overwhelmed, exhausted, rushing, second-guessing themselves, catastrophising after a difficult task, or becoming consumed by what everyone else appears to be doing.

APC READY focuses on that space.

Not on removing all pressure.

But on helping candidates learn: How do I want to respond when the pressure arrives?

What candidates can expect

APC READY combines a live 90-minute Performance & Resilience Lab with 21 days of short, practical micro-support leading toward the assessment.

The programme is deliberately designed to be light enough to fit alongside technical preparation.

Candidates do not receive another large body of content to study.

Instead, they receive brief interventions, reflection prompts, practical tools and short audio support designed to strengthen their capacity to perform under pressure.

The pathway focuses on three stages:

Week 1 — BUILD YOUR RESOURCES

Strengthen the person doing the preparation.

Candidates begin by understanding their own responses to pressure and strengthening the psychological resources they can draw on.

They explore:

  • their individual pressure patterns
  • the difference between confidence and competence
  • evidence of previous mastery and capability
  • personal strengths
  • hope and alternative pathways when things do not go according to plan
  • realistic optimism, and
  • recovery as a performance resource.

The aim is not to convince candidates that everything will be easy.

It is to help them recognise:

“I have resources. I have overcome difficult things before. And when something changes, I can adapt.”

Week 2 — PRACTISE YOUR RESPONSE

Because resilience becomes more useful when it is practised before it is needed.

Candidates begin applying practical tools to common APC pressure moments.

These may include:

  • getting stuck on a requirement
  • feeling behind on time
  • receiving disappointing simulation feedback
  • comparing preparation with other candidates
  • feeling mentally saturated
  • becoming overly perfectionistic
  • losing confidence after making a mistake
  • knowing when continued effort is useful—and when recovery is needed.

Candidates practise a short RESET strategy for interrupting an unhelpful stress response and returning their attention to the next useful action.

The underlying message is:

One difficult moment does not have to determine what happens next.

Week 3 — PERFORM DELIBERATELY

Move from “What if something goes wrong?” to “I know what I will do if it does.”

During the final phase, candidates turn the previous learning into a personalised performance strategy.

They prepare for predictable high-pressure situations through:

  • practical “If–Then” planning
  • strategies for recovering after a difficult task
  • attention and energy management
  • realistic preparation during the pre-release period
  • reducing unnecessary comparison
  • identifying what remains within their control
  • building their personal APC Performance Plan.

The emphasis gradually shifts from learning more toward protecting the capacity to use what has already been learned.

For the candidate who is thinking…

“What if I blank on the day?”

“Everyone else seems further ahead than I am.”

“My last simulation went badly and now I'm questioning everything.”

“I know the work—but under pressure I start second-guessing myself.”

“I feel guilty whenever I'm not studying.”

“What if one bad task throws off my whole assessment?”

“I am tired, but I'm scared to slow down.”

“I don't need another course. I need to get myself through these final weeks well.”

Then:

APC READY was designed for this part of the journey!

The pathway is:

Contextualised
Everything is framed around the APC candidate experience.

Practical
Candidates leave with tools they can actually use when something goes wrong.

Bite-sized
Micro-interventions are deliberately short so they do not become another burden.

Performance-focused
Well-being and recovery are positioned as resources that support effective performance—not as something separate from it.

Realistic
The programme does not suggest that candidates should simply “stay positive.”

It acknowledges the purpose and goal of the APC exam.

The focus is on adaptive responding rather than forced positivity.

The 21-Day APC READY Pathway will be hosted in a closed, facilitated WhatsApp group, allowing candidates to receive short, practical support without having to log into another learning platform or complete another course.

Throughout the 21 days, candidates can expect carefully paced:

  • short audio messages
  • practical reflection prompts
  • APC-specific performance and resilience tools
  • brief exercises
  • reminders and encouragement, and
  • opportunities for guided interaction where appropriate.

The intention is not to create more work.

Most interventions will take only a few minutes and are designed to fit naturally alongside candidates' existing APC preparation.

Your privacy matters

Participation in the WhatsApp group will be voluntary and candidates will be asked to provide informed consent before being added.

Personal information will be handled in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA) and the programme's privacy notice. POPIA requires personal information to be processed lawfully, reasonably and only to the extent appropriate for the purpose for which it is collected.

Candidates will also be informed in advance that participation in a WhatsApp group may make certain account information—such as their name, profile information and, depending on WhatsApp functionality and privacy settings, their mobile number—visible to other group participants.
